 박막 증착 장비를 사용하면서 상용화된 두께 컨트롤러는 제어가 안되거나 힘든 물질들이 있다. 특히 디스플레이 분야에서 OLED 증착이 보편화 되면서, 새로운 물질을 개발 하고 이것을 안정적으로 증착하는 기술이 많이 요구 되고 있다. 이러한 물질들에 특화되어 상용으로 개발된 컨트롤러가 많이 나오고 있다. 다만, 가격이 비싸고, 기존 시스템에 교체하여 설치 하기에는 비용, 시간 가능성 등이 그렇게 간단하지는 않은 문제가 있다.

 이런 문제가 있을 때 기존 시스템에 간단하게 USB 타입의 모니터를 설치하여, 컨트롤러를 구성하면, 비용과 시간을 절약 할 수 있을 것이다.

 가장 간단하게 구성 가능한 모니터가 바로 STM-2이다.

 기존 QCM 센서에 호환 문제가 없으며, USB 타입이기 때문에, 큰 어려움 없이 적용이 가능하다.

 대부분의 컨트롤러가 통신으로 제어가 가능하기 때문에, 기존 시스템에 통신으로 파워를 조절 하는 하면서 STM-2와 연계하면, 사용자에 최적화된 컨트롤러를 구현 가능하다.
